The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man over allegations of criminal intimidation, assault and the rape of his eight-year-old biological daughter.
The arrest was confirmed on Thursday in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib.
According to the police, the case was reported on December 31, 2025, at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Alkaleri. The complainant alleged that the suspect, identified as Baffa’ji Abba, lured his daughter into a bathroom on December 30 and repeatedly assaulted her against her will.
From my experience covering police and court matters, such cases often hinge on swift reporting and medical evidence. In this instance, police said officers responded immediately after receiving the complaint.
Habib said detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Alkaleri, CSP Kadiri Danjuma, visited the scene and ensured the child was taken to General Hospital, Alkaleri, for urgent medical attention.
The suspect was arrested shortly after, and police said he confessed during interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and carry out a thorough and discreet investigation.
Police sources said the focus would be on evidence gathering to ensure the case is properly prosecuted.
Habib added that the suspect would be formally charged in court once investigations are concluded.
